On Wednesday 26 February 2025, the Shire of Beverley Council resolved to specify the Beverley Oval as a Dog Exercise Area as per s31(31A) and (31C) of the Dog Act 1976. Specifying the oval is to focus on responsible dog ownership and create safe public spaces for all users and will come in effect on 1 May 2025.

Dog Exercise Area Rules

  1. Off leash permitted - persons responsible must have their registered dog/s under control and in sight at all times, owners must carry a lead of sufficient length and strength to attach dog/s when required.
  2. When any sporting activities or maintenance takes place, dogs must be on-lead and walked around the outside of the oval. If the oval is hired out, dogs are at the discretion of the hirer.
  3. The person/s responsible must clean up immediately after the dog – BAG IT, BIN IT. The primary use of the oval is for human recreation and fines may apply. The Shire provides free bags, please use them.
  4. The person in charge of the dog must ensure that the dogs behaviour is not to the detriment of others. If the dog becomes distressed, unruly or shows any signs of aggression it must be leashed and removed immediately.
